Their mother had been trying for years to have a child, and when the family was blessed with the twins it was something that they couldn't believe. Eli and Levi were loved dearly and unconditionally, and Eli grew attached to her father moreso than her mother. She was daddy's little girl and it was that way until the day the man died, but that's for later. She loved her mother as well, and was extremely close to her. But Eli just connected with her father on a more personal level, even when she was a youngster. She followed him around like his shadow and when she wasn't attached to her twin brother, she could be found with her father. He would read her books and she would draw him pictures. It was a perfect father daughter relationship. She hated when he and her mother had to leave for work in the mornings, and she wished that they wouldn't go out so much in the evenings either. But that time alone, especially when they were younger, allowed her to grow even closer to her twin. At times it still feels like she can feel what he's feeling. It's an odd sensation, but it connects her to Levi and it's something that she wouldn't trade for the world. When Eli was seven years old she still remembers waking up to her brother snuggling next to her. Even then she could tell exactly when something was bothering him, but the worried expression on his features told her everything. She asked him what was wrong, but he refused to tell her. She worried even though he told her that everything was alright and would be alright. Eli still holds that against him a little bit even though she'd never admit it. She's one to a hold a grudge, but never with her brother. She wishes now that he had told her the truth then but that's not something she can change. So instead of pressing him further that night like she would have liked to, she left him alone and feel asleep cuddling with her twin brother that night. Her brother had always given her a sense of peace when she was younger but that night something changed. She wanted to know what it was, so of course she started investigating. After that night, Eli started digging around in her father's office. They were home schooled until high school, so she had plenty of time to do a bit of snooping. And when she successfully broke into her father's office and started finding paperwork, she obviously knew something was up. She didn't understand the meaning of everything because of her young age, but she knew that they were involved in something called the IRA. She was going to ask them, but her twin beat her to the punch. Their mother and father sat them down in the living room and that was the day that Eli and Levi's lives changed. When everything was explained to the two, instead of being afraid, Eli asked when she could join. That earned a couple of laughs, but the next day Eli's mother took her to their basement. Her mother started teaching her the fine art of knives and a bit of physical fighting. Of course the woman would never hit her daughter, but they did spar, and as Eli grew, her skills only developed more. While she was became extremely skilled at fighting with knives and with hand to hand combat, her real skill lay in shooting and firearms. Now Eli knows the inside and out of every single firearm that is placed within her hands. She loved guns then and she loves them even more. She grew more attached to her mother during her training, but her father was still the main influence in her life. While he trained her brother through hunting, Eli was allowed out on the same trips. She wasn't afraid to take a life even then, even though it was an animal. She became almost obsessed with guns, and started researching more and more as she grew. When they started high school, Eli excelled in her studies. She didn't get involved in the dance team or cheer leading, or boys really. All of her "friends" urged her to but she had no interest and she wasn't going to be some floozy that a bunch of jocks wanted to take advantage of. Instead, she went straight home after school and threw herself into more training. The girl was muscled and toned, and her tall and slim form was catching the attention of the boys in her school. Her junior year of high school was when she really caught their attention because she blossomed. Her father was upset that his little girl was wearing tighter jeans and shorter tops, but he didn't need to worry. One day after school, she was walking home when she realized that she was being followed. Her father didn't allow her to carry a gun to school for obvious reasons, but there was a knife in her pocket and she was more than willing to use it if the situation called for it. When the young man pulled her into a back alley to try to convince her to "satisfy" him, Eli let him take her in. She wanted to kick his ass, and she did. He went running from the alley nursing a bloody, broken nose and two black eyes, as well as an injured groin. After that, boys left her alone. Eli wasn't a whore in high school either. She didn't lose her virginity until she was twenty years old and in the marines. Eli graduated high school when she was seventeen, and she enlisted into the Marines after that. She didn't want to go to college, and her parents supported her, especially her father. She flew through the ranks, but her heart didn't lie in being a senior officer. She was much happier working behind the scenes with her team members. She became apart of the Marine Force Recon, which is the branch that is responsible for gathering intelligence for the USMC operations. She was responsible for deep reconnaissance behind enemy lines, and she was trained in combat, parachuting, skiing, and working with swimming gear as well. Everything was going great for her, until she turned 20. Eli's team was working behind the lines in Afghanistan when everything started falling apart. She was honorably discharged after her team members were killed off one by one. Eli almost lost her life that day, but she was taken hostage by the enemy for the total of one month. She was held for one month and they tortured and brutalized her. That was when she lost not only her virginity, but her pride and her defiance. The things that they did to her in that camp were things that she never talks about, not even to her brother. She was declared emotionally traumatized after her rescue and the Marines discharged her for her mental and physical health. Eli will never get over that. However, instead of resting like she was supposed to, she threw herself into doing things for the IRA that her family had been involved with. She became the number one gun runner for the business and she was skilled at what she did because the training she had from the Marines. She could go behind the lines and complete the deals successfully without any time wasted. She was not only just good at what she did, but she lived and breathed for her job. It distracted her from the memories of her time in capture. She shut herself down slightly after that, although she acted as normally as she could around her brother. When he asked her about what happened to her she brushed it off as if it was no big deal. She doesn't want to remember it and she refuses to think about it. When she turned 21, she was hit with another traumatic event in her life she she still swears to get revenge for. Because of her and her family's ties with the Irish mob, her parents suffered because of it. The IRA and the mob always had tension, and her brother and her were working to soften that tension. Things were going well until the IRA approached her parents about their loyalties. Their parents stood up for the mob and that was when they lost their lives. Eli remembered identifying the bodies with her brother. She didn't cry but her heart felt like it had broken into a million pieces. But she had to be strong for her brother because he was slipping into a dark place. Eli still hasn't mourned the death of her parents. She was extremely close to them, especially her father, and the lost of that man killed something inside of her. The loss of them both ruined her, but she'll never admit it. She hasn't let their memories go because she was too busy helping her brother. She will never blame him for that because he needed her and she would do anything and everything for him. She would lay down her life for him if it meant his survival. She protects him with everything that she has even though he could protect himself. But they got closer after that because they were all that they had left. In order to save her brother from the darkness inside of himself, she offered the idea of moving to where the Selwyns were. She knew how close Levi was with Connor and still is. Although she can't stand the dirty pervert sometimes, the mob was their family and she wasn't going to make Levi suffer any longer. She moved them as soon as he agreed and she became one of the main gun runners for the mob as well. She's friends with all of the Selwyn siblings, especially Kahlan. Connor and her have a love hate relationship, and she's good friends with Lennox. Asher is someone who she appreciates because he's like a fresh breath of air, and she's just glad that her brother has all of them to be around, especially now. After Kyson died, Eli struggled with another loss. She loved the man, and he even helped her train in the art of gun running for the Irish mob. She thought of him as another father and when she heard of his death it was hard for her. But again, like all of the other times, she shut it deep inside of herself and dealt with it that way. The girl holds everything inside because she wants to help those around her first. She worked on comforting the Selwyns and her brother, doing her best to make things easier for them. She threw herself into her work. She did as many runs as she could because she wanted to distract herself. The young woman is a lot stronger than many people believe her to be. She's as tough as nails and she doesn't appreciate people thinking they can mess with her. She was happy with her life, until everything changed. She was happy even after she escaped from that horrible prison until she found out the man she loved was the man who betrayed her. Eli Byrne was in love with Connor Selwyn. They had their romance, something that was not revealed to anyone else other than them. She was happy. She was in love. And, she carried his child. However, she didn't have the chance to tell him because she was ambushed and taken. She didn't know what hit her and she didn't know that it was a set up, a trap. Connor Selwyn wanted an alliance with the Russians, and Eli was supposed to be the perfect price to pay. However, that back fired in Connor's face. Not only did he not get the alliance, but he had ruined one of his best shoulders. The torture that she went through murdered her baby, murdered Eli's heart. She was raped repeatedly, and the only thing that kept her sane about that was that they beat her so badly afterwards that there was no chance for a new baby to ever survive. Eli was devastated though. No one came for her, no one tried to save her. And when she finally did escape after the year had gone by, she was discouraged to find out how easy it was for her to get out. She had been on the ground floor. It would have been so easy. She tried not to think of it though. She returned home to the Compound, believing that Connor would greet her with open arms and a love she had missed greatly. But that was not the case. He was cold and awful to her, as well as downright cruel. He ignored her, told Jett to care for her and brief her. When she was strong enough to keep her feet for more than five minutes, she went to Connor. And that was when all was revealed to her. She had been sold out, she had been bargained with. She was just another object to Connor and that broke her more than she had ever let on. She had told him she had loved him but that was thrown in her face. Not only was she shattered, she was embarrassed. And she wouldn't stay. She couldn't believe he would expect her to after that. Eli became a rogue assassin. She is still a gunrunner, but that is her second title now. She kills for a living and has become rather good at it. She will kill for anyone that hires her, no matter their background, no matter their ties. Killing is what she does, and she'd love to put a bullet through Connor Selwyn's head. Her brother Jett stayed with her for a while, but she knew that he missed the Compound, their mafia family. She told him that she'd never go back, but she didn't make him stay with her. She wouldn't judge him or hold that against him. She was happy when he went, for he had found the love of his life in a young woman named Driver. She was happy for him. So incredibly happy. But now Eli is still a rogue. She won't go back to the Irish mafia ever. She won't ever tell Connor Selwyn that he had been a father to the baby that was killed when she had been mercilessly tortured. Eli still holds the scars the Russians had given her. There is an R branded on the inside of her right wrist, signifying that she belonged to them at one point. She covers that brand with a thick leather bracelet. The scars litter her arms and her legs, her torso, everywhere. There are cigarette burns, there are knife marks, there are whip marks. Her nose was slightly crooked from the amount of times it had been broken, but the greatest scar was something that couldn't be seen. Her heart is completely ruined and she will never forgive him for that. He not only killed her spirit, he killed their child, their love. While he didn't know that she was pregnant, that didn't matter to Eli. It doesn't matter to Eli. He's still to blame and she will never, ever go back. No matter how badly she wants to some time, no matter how much she misses him and what they used to have. Eli is forever alone, and forever alone she was stay. It's meant to be that way. |
