Sighing, Johnny ran his hand over his face. It had been such a stressful week, from running around with Vienna to managing his business. Not only had he moved from Santa Monica to Boston over the period of a couple months, but he had started his own athletic training business with one of his buddies. There were some famous names thrown into the mix of clients, but the fact that Johnny now had to do math every day was stressing him out. He was handsome, yes, but math had never been his strong suit. And to add to all of it, he hadn’t heard from his sister within the last couple of days. It freaked him out when he didn’t hear from her, but his mother had calmed him and reminded him that she had a son to take care of while he was busy with a business. Both had different types of babies, and both were at different point in their lives.
He stood up from his kitchen table and grabbed his jacket before moving out the door, ready for the wind. It was getting darker earlier in the evening now, now that fall was arriving, and he liked it. Fall was his favorite season, mostly because the leaves changed and it got cooler. While he adored the hot weather and going to the beach during the summer, he was glad to see it go. Now, at least, his clients would rather work out inside instead of outside. The heat was horrible running weather. Johnny made his way to the sidewalk, his eyes already set on the coffee shop that was right around the corner. Most likely, the girl, Ingrid, was finishing up his coffee and it would be ready for him. He hated waiting in line, and the teenager had a school girl crush on him, which was adorable. He would never make a move, but he was more than happy to abuse the free coffee cuts. Pushing the door open with a ping, he smiled at her over the line before collecting it right by the entrance. A collective groan echoed the small shop, and he rolled his eyes before exiting once more. Maybe if he was a couple years younger, he would be flirt with her, but the age difference was a little large…then again, he was a little older than Vienna herself.
His heart fluttered at her name, but pushed his feelings aside. She had been acting a little weird lately, weirder than normal. He had been giving her space, allowing her to work though her troubles, but he wouldn’t wait forever. Johnny may have acted like he enjoyed all of the secrets and that he would be patient, but they had been dating a couple of months…he hated pretending that everything was alright. Pushing the thoughts out of his mind, he grabbed his book out of his back pocket and found a bench somewhere near the entrance of the park he had found himself by. His favorite novel (of the moment) was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and he enjoyed the witty banter between the characters. While he was not into the blood and guts that the movie had, as well as the rape, the book was well written enough to grab his taste. He folded the cover back and found his page, before his eyes began to absorb the words that were on the tan paper. He almost didn’t realize that someone had found their way to the empty seat next to him, and he was so engrossed in the novel that he hadn’t even noticed the person said something. Blinking, Johnny pulled himself away from the novel and looked at the person. ”I’m sorry, what was that?”

What was Sabrina Lachlan doing out on the streets of Boston? Well, she was doing what she always did. Acting normal after a big night on the rich side of town. Adrenaline still rushed through her veins, her eyes were still stinging from the brightness of the cop car lights. She was still laughing over the fact they even tried to catch her. Don't they know she's quicker than anything on wheels, especially when she knows the cops that are trying to arrest her? Well, apparently not. Tucking her hair behind on ear, revealing one of her conquests from the night before, Sabrina took a deep breath as she passed a bakery. Boy was she hungry. But unfortunately, she didn't have any actual money and the barter system was a little old fashioned.
She glanced around at the people she passed, looking for an open purse or a loose pocket. Nothing. Seems people are finally catching on to the whole crime thing, she thought with a sigh. She hated the fact that citizens became more aware of the situation as time went on. It made things that much more difficult on an already struggling young adult. Sabrina's train of thought drifted as she walked along the road, not making eye contact with anyone she passed. Her younger sister was in a bigger mess than she was. A wave of guilt overtook her as she saw the picture in her mind of a trampled and dirty seventeen year old laying in a bed, awaiting an middle aged man. It was her responsibility to take care of the girl, and she failed. And now she lost her chance. There was no way she could save her sister now that she was so far gone, not that her sister would accept anything from Sabrina.
The brunette looked a little ways down the road, stopping right there in her tracks. "Victoria..." she murmured, her lips barely moving. She hadn't seen her sister in weeks. At least now she knew the girl was alive. But she didn't look good. Sabrina inched closer to the block ahead of her where her sister leaned on a brick wall, barely covered by the rags she wore. Her face was covered in bruises concealed by makeup, that much Sabrina could see from where she was a few shops away. A man walked up to her. He was dark skinned and a solid six inches taller than the seventeen year old, and at least 15 years older. Victoria kicked off the wall and stepped closer to him, "working her magic" as she always used to say.
"Oh Vic, what is happening to you?" she sighed, collapsing onto a bench next to a complete stranger. A rather attractive one. And he looked like he had some money on him, or at least she hoped. Maybe she could get a meal out of him. I'm sorry, what was that?. The words echoed through Sabrina's mind for a few moments. Thinking fast, she formed a plan. Glancing down at the book he was reading, she began to speak again. "Girl with the dragon tattoo, huh? I've heard it's good," she said with a smile, leaning in a little closer to examine what part he was at. She hadn't ever read it, but she was good at faking intelligence. Years and years of practice, plus the fact she actually was intelligent. "How are you liking it?" she said with a flirtatious smile. Even if he didn't go for it, it was fun to flirt with someone who was actually attractive, not just someone who's wallet was big.

Everything had seemed to go to shit over the last couple of weeks. It was not his fault, of course, but Johnny couldn’t see his life gaining any momentum soon. His cell phone vibrated in his pocket and he strategically ignored it, pretending that his cell phone had disappeared. Life had become similar after he cut his family out, considering all they were talking about was the incident. To him, nothing had changed and Annlice was still in Santa Monica, swimming in the ocean with her baby boy. Yes, he had grieved with his family, but he didn’t want to constantly talk about what had happened. Not to mention the fact that Vienna had broken his heart once again after moving back to England with barely a goodbye. She had said her mother had forced her to, but he doubted that. Ophelia was not that cruel, and Vienna probably left him because some rich duke of a country no one had ever heard was flirting. Johnny didn’t have money, but that didn’t mean he was unhappy with his finances.
Rubbing his hands over his face, he turned his attention back to the novel at hand. He had seen the movie with one of his buddy’s weeks ago and now had the craving to compare film to books. So far, the beginning was a little dry, but it was slowly picking up steam. Johnny had never been a big reader, but it was a pleasant distraction. It was a faraway place that he could transport to whenever he deemed necessary. Reading, drinking and smoking were what he did now, and although he was trying to make himself a name in the city, he couldn’t stop. His vices called his name, whispering tempting words into his mind. It was horrid, and Johnny couldn’t resist. He even had one of his clients delivering him drugs instead of money, and that was surely against the bar. Being a lawyer had more rules then he had ever realized, even though he had never thought he would have gone down such a dark path.
The bench shifter just a bit, but Johnny ignored it at first. Usually the benches in the park were worn and even a shift could tilt a bench off its axis. But instead of hearing the wind or birds, he heard a soft voice. Dazed and confused, Johnny turned and glanced at the petite brunette that was staring intently at the garden. He blinked a couple of times as his mind computed her soft words. It seemed so long ago that someone had expressed interest in him, whether friendly or not. Usually he talked on the phone and avoided all personal contact, but this girl was pretty and looked harmless enough. In the back of his mind, a voice was reminding him that looks could be deceiving, but he didn’t care anymore.
His eyes glanced at the novel and he shrugged. ”Yeah. I saw the movie just the other day with a buddy of mine and thought that the book would be interesting. The beginning is a little dry, but it’s picking up momentum.” he said, giving a shy smile in return. Was he flirting? Johnny could feel himself getting embarrassed, considering it had been forever since he flirted with a girl. He felt like a teenage boy again that was trying to ask a girl to a dance. ”Have you read it before?” he asked curiously, glancing at the cover again. ”My name’s Johnny, by the way. I probably should have introduced myself before, but my manners are a little rusty.” this time he gave her a cheesy grin, one showing that he was harmless. Yes, he was a little rusty.
