[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,386,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=style, width:130px; height: 200px; background-image: url(http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m694xguiht1rt90fho4_250.png);][/style] | [style=height: 180px; overflow: auto; font-size: 9px;]on june twenty-seventh, paige and nathanial hayes added the newest member of their family; caleb dean hayes. he would be their only child, and the pride and joy of his mother. nathanial had never been one good with children, but even caleb remembers a time where is father hugged his son and played catch in the backyard. those memories are not as clear as some, like his mother's funeral and he asking why was his mother in a box and his father slapping his only son once across the face. caleb didn't know the concept of death, but it was that day that he knew never to mention paige around his father again. it would be years before caleb knew the reason why his father had slapped him; it was not because of ignorance, it was because his father felt as though he was dying of a broken heart and that once his wife left, the weight of the world would be placed on his shoulders. it didn't stop caleb from asking friends of the family what had happened to his mother. his nanny, jennifer, finally told him the truth when he was eleven; his mother had been murdered by a failed burglary attempt at the business she worked at. the man had shot her ten times before she collapsed, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. caleb sobbed and finally yelled at his father for hiding something so important. nathanial retaliated that caleb was just a child and had no right looking into the history. caleb yelled at his father, asking why nathanial hadn't done anything to the man who had torn the family apart. his father admitted that he had hired someone to kill the murderer, and the cause of his mother's death was never brought up again. caleb began to respect his father. his father had to raise a boy all on his own and had to live with the knowledge that someone's life was on his hands. during his teen years, caleb took part in everything and anything. he was on the football, basketball and track team as well as the student council, the french club, the humanities club, the future educators club and the cooking club. he was prom king junior and senior year, voted most likely to be successful, class comedian, date to bring home and best personality. he wanted to feel as though he could impact a community, and that was what he did. being class president, he made a speech at graduation, thanking his father, his teachers, his classmates and admitting that he was going into law enforcement after high school. the summer caleb was leaving for stanford, nathanial told his son that he was getting married and would have two step-sisters. caleb, not even aware that his father was dating, couldn't believe it. there were siblings in his family now, something he had wanted for so long. of course, this came with a downside. the mother, clarissa, was a real mother. her one daughter and one son, one eighteen another sixteen, were nice enough. but now andrew had to report to someone, and that bothered him. never before had he had to do that, and now his life was turning upside down. he often yelled at clarissa in the first month, and the stepmother was patient, and eventually they bonded. he won't admit it, but he loves clarissa and his two sisters. having someone other then his father who wanted to make sure he was alright made him want to be home, made him want to be around, and he and clarissa created a mother/son relationship. |
