Saxton was a very punctual man and with Sloan being pregnant, he was more timeline driven than she was. He had to everything going according to the way it was supposed to be going, but he needed to know all the facts and details. She needed a doctor, but he couldn’t outright take her to a hospital for her criminal records. That in itself was an issue, but there was always a loophole; Saxton had long ago learned that there always would be one if he was willing to dig and find it. He set out with the task of asking for three days off, a rare occurrence for him and he was not surprised when it was approved. They had no reason to deny him the time when he was always there and always putting out his best efforts. This was something Saxton couldn’t just overlook and wait on, but even if it was he was not the sort of man who could do it. He searched through numbers and briefly interviewed every doctor before deciding on a woman who swore to keep client confidentiality to both him and his partner. He told her briefly their situation and they made arrangements for an appointment. This was a doctor who normally did house calls, but Saxton didn’t think Sloan was really up for parading around in public. She was in a place where he needed to be sensitive and firm – the best way to go about this was to bring the doctor to her and that was what he did.
He wanted to be in constant contact with Sloan, but he didn’t want her to feel smothered by his presence. Quietly, he made the arrangements and even start envisioning their life together in an apartment or house. He didn’t want to scare her off or make her feel like he was tying her down, but he needed to know he was doing everything he could do to be the best father for their child. He didn’t want to stop and think about the “what ifs” of this situation. The heaviest one made his shoulders tremble by the sheer weight. What if this baby was not his and it was the man who had raped her? She wouldn’t want to keep it and it was scary to think of watching her go through terminating the baby, the pain of the entire thing. He wanted to protect Sloan, but he couldn’t protect her from her own demons and the facts that were. He loved her, utterly so, but he couldn’t coddle her. He could only do so much and he was already at the limit. That fact, to a man who had to be in control to an extent, scared him to his wits end. He was pushing his luck with where they were in their relationship, he couldn’t expect more from her. She was trying as it were and for him to want more was unreasonable. At the end of the day, they were growing, but neither of them had changed much at all.
With his apartment cleaned and guest room more suited as a hospital room, the doctor came first. Assuring her that Sloan would be there, he led her to the room that he prepared for her. He was nervous and the doctor caught on to it, nothing the fact that he was a man who wasn’t often nervous so when he was he didn’t have an idea of how to handle the emotions. Nodding sheepishly, he headed back out to wait for Sloan. This was more about her than it was him, he wasn’t the one who was pregnant, but he was the one who wanted the baby. He told her that he wanted the baby, but ultimately his words were true and he would be supportive for her no matter what she would do. He leaped at her soft knock at the door and opened it to invite her inside. Once she was there, he succumbed to the urge to hug and hold her for a brief minute before taking off her jacket and leading her down to the doctor. ”Completely private and confidential, I checked into everything that there was. It all checks out and this will be safe. I’ve even had her prepare a paternity test. … Are you ready?”

Whoever said that beauty’s on the inside is a liar
sloan was irate.
irritated wasn't a sufficient adjective for how she was feeling. she wanted to kill someone. she rationalized that it wasn't a pointless anger: that it wasn't just hormones. she didn't want to be pregnant. she wanted to throw herself down a flight of stairs. but the reason she was so angry right now was saxton's paternity test. she'd already told him the baby was his. she refused to believe otherwise and it enraged her that he would go through with this. she was scared and refused to think she was pregnant with the child of a rapist. surely a child from that union would come out with two heads and horns, breathing fire. there was no one a good thing could come out of her being pregnant with that asshole's child.
she wanted the baby to be saxton's, so it was. in her mind, she had decided it, and she didn't need him to confirm it for her. it pissed her off that he wouldn't just listen to her. he was so happy about the baby, but he needed to prove to himself scientifically that he was the father of it? she didn't understand it. so it irritated her. she wanted to hit him, or stab him, or worse.
as she stepped up to the door to his apartment, she steeled herself and squared her shoulders, wanting to beat down the door. instead, she opted for knocking as politely as possible. her mood was busy swinging down, and she found herself timid which was highly unusual for her. she had to meet someone she'd never seen before who was going to peer into the parts of her that had henceforth only been seen by the men she allowed to fuck her. sure, there were many of them, but it was weird for anyone to see her privates in such a business-like atmosphere.
the door swung open to reveal saxton, and she saw that he was alone. this served to bring her rage back. turning her back to him, she allowed him to take her jacket, sufficiently freeing her arms. stalking off ahead of him, she heard him telling her the details of what was going to happen, and her jaw clenched in anger. whirling on him, she smacked him hard across his face and glared up at him with her chocolatey brown eyes. she was shorter than him, and her belly was finally beginning to show so she looked like a wild, round-bellied little panther as she stood glaring hotly up at him.
"you're an ass," she hissed, her hand going to his sleeve and roughly grabbing the fabric to pull him closer to her. "this fucking thing inside of me is yours, and if you need a fucking paternity test to prove it, then fine. but i don't accept another answer, and i think it's rude that you need to ask."
whatever rational part of her mind still existed knew she was being absurd, but she didn't care. she didn't start caring about his feelings just because he got her pregnant and they'd fucked a few times over the past several months. that didn't mean she was in love with him. turning her back on him again, she burst violently into the guest room where the doctor greeted her with a smile.
"where do i need to sit? let's just get this shit over with." WORDS (SOMETHIN) CLOTHES (IN THE PIC) NOTES (SHE'S NOT HAPPY XD) |

Saxton devoted the three days off to Sloan, to their baby and to their growing family. She may not see that they were a family, but once this child was here they would be. He didn’t know much about Sloan’s childhood, she never told him. He couldn’t guess if her childhood included a family that was whole, but his didn’t. His mother was an addict and she died, his father was a heartbroken poor man and his grandparents mainly raised him. That was what stemmed Saxton to want a family that he was never able to have before, but Sloan wasn’t going to give him what he wanted so easily and he knew that. It broke his heart to think about, the fact that she may have this baby and leave them, but he wouldn’t be able to stop her. He never had been able to stop her and he knew his love wasn’t enough for her. It was as if their night together on the casino boat now meant nothing. That the love they made was nonexistent. She was shutting him out and he had a feeling she would even when he told himself that it would be different.
This paternity test wasn’t being conducted because Saxton didn’t see the baby as his, he already did even if it wasn’t. It was to give Sloan a peace of mind to move past her rape, but judging by her reaction over the telephone she didn’t see it this way at all. He was positive that she was angry with him for putting this on her and the last thing he wanted to do was stress her out. As it were, he knew that her head was filled with nothing but negative thoughts on their baby. She didn’t want the baby, she could only see on how it was ruining her body and her life. He assumed she had thoughts of killing their baby and the idea of this baby not being born stung deep in his wounded heart that Sloan held like putty in her hands. She had this control over him and he knew she knew she had it. Yet he didn’t want this to be true, because he felt like she didn’t want anything to do with him until it suited her. He wanted her to care more, but he knew that it wasn’t part of who she is.
He had hoped for this to go better than it was already slowly shaping to take shape, but he knew Sloan by now. Nothing was ever easy for those around her, especially Saxton. What made her hard to level with was knowing that when she felt caged, she fled. Their baby in fact was her worse nightmare, more than Saxton himself. Because with this baby came responsibility and a need for something stable, something constant. Sloan was a wandering soul, she didn’t stay in one place for long. She spent their two years apart doing god knows what and she was happy that way. He was ruining her plans again, but he didn’t want her to take it out on the baby. Saxton wasn’t one of those girls on 16 and pregnant. He knew what he wanted and what he wanted was a life with this baby. It was already changing him into a more caring man, and saxton hadn’t always been that guy who cared. Normally he was the man who was closed off and he never showed emotions. He had Sloan to thank for that and now he had sloan to thank for this change. She changed him whenever she felt like it that was how much control she had.
Yet she didn’t have control over this and when she burst through the door he knew it was going to be bad news. She had a temper and he could sense it, he felt himself cringing back and away while taking off her coat. He knew it was coming, something that would hurt whether it be words or an act of physical violence. Saxton hoped she would get this out of her system before their baby was born, because he didn’t want his child seeing fighting parents. On edge as he waited for her assault, she let him have it in the form of a smack across his face. He thought she would wait, but of course he was only kidding himself. She pulled him down to her and he listened, growing irritation back at her but he bit the bullet and tried to tell himself he wasn’t going to lose his cool. Her words were sharp and they showed her hurt, but he knew he had to reinforce and reinsure that nothing was going to change. “Sloan this isn’t to hurt your feelings this is to give you peace of mind. I know this is my baby and I want you to now it’s mine too. Just relax, nothing is going to change. I’m still raising this baby with or without you.”
Tailing along behind her, she entered the room with a less than polite greeting. He rolled his eyes already having done his part of the test before Sloan came over. Watching the doctor explain, he was interrupted by his work cellphone and he groaned at the thought. “Excuse me, I have to take this.” He said to both women, before exiting the room. Answering the phone, it was as it there was no amount of words that he could say to them. They needed him, and he had to go. Knocking on the door, he poked his head in. “I have to go, emergency at work. Sorry.” He had to be curt with them, mostly because he didn’t want to fuel the Sloan rage fire anymore. Quickly grabbing what was needed he headed out the door before anyone could stop him. He didn’t know he was going to walk right into a vicious attack set up by the Russian mafia, but as it were he didn’t know that the baby really was his or if sloan cared about him beyond when she needed him. And there was a slim possibility that he would never know.
