The younger of two daughters and the middle child born to financier Marcus hawthorne and his wife, heather, frankie never wanted for love or attention. her mother stayed home to raise the children, and had plenty of help in doing so. nannies and private chefs and tutors were in and out of the house, and francesca had access to everything she expressed an interest in. she was that lucky kindergartener who actually got a pony for her birthday, and her pony had given way to a stable and a stud farm by the time she was in high school. success was a given in the Hawthorne family, and generations before francesca had gone on to achieve great things. There were dr. hawthornes and d.a. hawthornes, senator hawthornes and judge hawthornes. Her great-great-great-grandfather was a famous theorist and biologist, and her godfather was a pulitzer prize winning journalist. Saying the hawthornes were well-connected would be technically incorrect, as the implication there is that they'd even need to rely on connections in the first place; the hawthornes were their own connections, and theirs was a last name that unlocked doors. heather doted on her children and though they had money she never spoiled, not wanting her to turn into a bunch of spoiled brats. she wanted her children to be respectful, learn manners, and to be kind and generous. she wanted them to do what was right, but she never forced them to do anything she didn't want, at least not when it came to her career. from a young age it was clear that francesca or frankie as her mother nicknamed her, was into dancing, her mother believed that someday she might become a professional dancer, but although frankie loved ballet, she didn't want to pursue it professionally, deciding to pursue something else. she took dancing lessons in her spare time after school and on weekends, but it was only something she did for enjoyment. frankie didn't mind school that much, and she did pretty well, she wasn't the smartest person in her class, but she wasn'tthe stereotypical dumb blonde either at all, she knew quite a bit, and her favourite subject was english litrature, as they read some of the classics which she loved to read, her favourite being sense & sensibility and pride & prejudice. she loved reading, and at home she often went out into the garden when the weather was nice to read. she did like to do other things and loved playing tennis, and would often go swimming with her friends at weekend. she also played a bit of basketball with her brother, and while she was good and could play it pretty well, she wasn't as good as her brother. she wasn't hugely popular in school, but she did have a group of friends who she was pretty close to and liked to hang out with a couple of which were guys. frankie's life was pretty carefree for awhile, and she'd had a happy childhood. that was up until her mother's death. her mother had been ill off and on for awhile with various things, and charlie thought she'd gotten better and would be all right, but she wouldn't and just over a two years ago when she was 18 her mother died. frankie was heartbroken. she had been pretty close to both her parents, so to loose her mother was pretty hard for her, for them all. she tried coping with it as best she could, and for the most part she was coping well. but there were times when it became too much and she would cry herself to sleep. a few months after her mother's death frankie had finally graduated from high school and moved to boston to attend the lynch school of education at boston college. that was eight years ago. since then frankie had graduated from college and then graduate school and moved on to teach at one of boston high schools. she knows that only an insane person would probably voluntarily sentence themselves into a lifetime of hell that is high school but she actually loves her job. frankie still remembers all the lessons her mother taught her and cannot think of a better way to honoring her mother by givng all of herself to the job she has. |
