She was a hazard to herself and everyone who tried to be in her life that had an ounce of care. She spent ten years in and out of emergency rooms getting her stomach pumped of drugs and alcohol - antibiotics for venereal diseases that she caught over the years. Until she met William Pond, sweet, charming, and terribly naive William Pond who thought he could save the beautiful Sheena, but he was just under a spell only heartbreak and loss could make him conquer. When she discovered she was pregnant, she clung to William for the entire duration of her pregnancy. Anxious and scared, Sheena didn't want to give birth to feel the pain, but after a miraculously quick labor her only child was born into the world and named Saxton Wesley Pond by his father. There was happiness for William and was ready to devote the rest of his twenty-four years of his life to his child. However only after three days of being home with her new family, Sheena slipped off into the night and started a game of hide and seek with the father of her child for the rest of his life. It was a short and cruel game, which led to Sheena found in a run-down motel bathtub overdosed on laced heroin and already one day gone. It broke something in William's head, but he choked it down and returned home to his parents and his four year old son. The years to come were even more cruel than the harshest winter storms. His mother and then his father died, his sister moved to the United States to follow some young, rich mogul she barely knew, and it seemed relentless as if this would not pass and there was no sense of keeping calm or hiding the worry from Saxton. William was just a bank teller with more bills than he could handle and no one to help him. Eventually, due to poor credit standings he lost his job and went working at grocery stores as a cashier. He was hardly home and Saxton grew to spend more hours at school and then at a babysitters that was an old friend of William's. Eventually William was found an unfit father no matter how hard he tried and when his son was only seven years old he became a ward of court. After months of spending time in foster care, Saxton was sent to live with an older couple who loved taking in kids. They agreed that as long as William was civil, Saxton could see his father. It was one of the happier days of William's life and he was pushed to become diligent and studious - that all their pride in their life relied on whether or not Saxton did well in school and Saxton took it as if he didn't spend almost every waking hour and minute of his life studying, testing, and correcting mistakes. Knowledge that didn't see useful to anyone else, Saxton thought it was useful and it was how he propelled himself through success that came his way. He was the sun that all of his fosters parents pride revolved around and the same with his father who was finally on his feet. In university, he was never focused on what the others were. Drinking and sex did appeal to him, but with the years of discipline to focus he would never allow himself to revel in recreational activities not beneficial to his precious education scholarships and hard earned money paid for. He was hired into the MI5 and it was a another defining milestone in his life - he was at the top and there was nothing that could slow him. He loved working on his own, but they decided to give him a partner. Probably to test him, he assumed, so he told himself before meeting his partner that it was strictly professional and there would be no friendship that ever came from working with them. He heard too many stories of partners who were best friend and partners who became enemies after their employment ceased to be and Saxton didn't want to stand in line with all the other men and women who had been fools. But it was easy, it was easy to tell himself he wouldn't do that until he met his partner. then it was like everything he ever told himself had changed and he found himself stunned and in awe of her, her beauty and her intelligence, her wit and charm. he wanted to be the best he could be but she was just as equivalent to him than anyone else in his life and he didn't want to admit it. it was more than just professional, he was standing in the line with all the others. he knew why they could stand there and be embarrassed because how could you not revel in the emotions and the pleasures that came from such fascinating embraces? he wasn't the only one to take it past partners, but he felt like he was the only one who had it different. they trusted each other and their work was five-star impeccable. that was how the phone call caught him off guard, how such cruel betrayal lashed him so hard in barely healed wounds. she had betrayed him and he loved her - he loved Sloan more than he could tell anyone, but when the coworkers looked at him, it was just a shake of the head. they kept him around even though she had ruined all of his good progress and he struggled to stay in good standing and not be known as "that one guy who was pussy-whipped." it should have been easy after she was out of his life to move on and work toward a new goal but soon he was overcome with the realization that he still loved her. while his father urged him to let go of the idea of being with her and never staying in love with a woman who was too far gone, Saxton found it difficult with where he worked. after months of exit counseling from his job, he accepted small jobs at police stations working as a private investigator. Eventually Saxton chalked up his inability to move on to the scenery. After indulging in months of traveling around the world and coming to terms with his biggest failure and the woman he refused to stop loving even though she never truly loved him, he decided to settle in Boston and join a team there as a detective. He considers himself accepted and over what had happened in the MI5 and his now buried feelings for his past - and he's focused on getting to the bottom of his new assignment. |
