Elizabeth Woods-Reagan and David Reagan were perfectly happy with their two children, and wouldn't have them any other way. They were doting parents, sending the children to the best schools that they could afford in their hometown of Lawrence, Kansas. As a result, Jo and her brother and the family had a very good relationship and they were brought up to be kind people. Their love had another outcome, though; the Reagan children were known for being a little spoiled. Jo was known for her tantrums, especially. If someone told her no, she'd have a knee-jerk reaction to start screaming and crying. This eventually loosened up when she was older and therefore more mature, but Jo really projects more of a "my way or the highway" air. Her temper, when provoked, was always ferocious. In high-school, Jo learned like many other teenagers that if she applied a bit of eyeliner and curled her hair and pouted, she'd have a good chunk of the male populace wrapped around her finger. Unfortunately, she also was shown that if she acted vacant, the effect would multiply on some of the boys. She had lots of dates with popular boys, but her schoolwork suffered. At this time, her grandmother, Mary Woods, came up from Texas where she used to live, and brought her experiences of cooking and baking with her (which would later become something they'd bond over). The woman told her in no uncertain terms that acting like she was stupid didn't make her pretty. Jo threw one of her famous tantrums, saying that it wasn't her "fault that she wasn't intelligent" (even though in all reality, Jo wasn't that stupid), until her mother and grandmother started taking away her makeup and then forced her to face the music. Her grades went up, even if she dragged her feet at first, and she found that she actually really enjoyed a lot of her science courses. She started making friends who encouraged her in showing that she was a bright girl. Jo went off to college to study music, at first, despite her grandmother and the rest of her family's complaints. She switched majors very quickly, soon after that, joining the field of what would be forensic science. Crime scene science interested her, and she always wanted to do something that helped the world, even if it wasn't classically "pretty". She moved to Boston after finishing her courses, getting a job as a forensic scientist with their police department. |
