[/style] Gently, Scout ran her hands over the soft lace that crisscrossed over the bodice of her dress. Her fingertips outlined the light pink flowers at her waist and then dropped to her hips, spreading out as she gently twirled to and fro, watching herself in the floor-length mirror. She was alone, for the the first and last time since the entire wedding extravaganza had begun. Until this moment, she'd been groomed and pampered by hair stylists, makeup artists, and anyone else who wanted to pluck an eyebrow or hairspray her hair or straighten the necklace around her neck.
As she looked at herself in the mirror, she ran her thumb beneath the sparkling diamond necklace - a simple but beautiful piece of jewelry Nixon had given her for their anniversary, a piece of jeweled art that matched her personality perfectly - readjusting it to sit in the dip of her breastbone where she liked it. The matching diamond earrings, the first gift he'd given her, sparkled in harmony with the necklace, and as she watched herself, shining tears formed in the corners of her eyes.
"You look beautiful," a familiar voice murmured from the doorway, making her jump slightly and spin to see her father staring at her. He smiled, that sad sort of smile a father shows his daughter on her wedding day: the day he knows he finally passes her along to another man to take care of her. Scout laughed a short, breathy laugh and went to him, wrapping her arms around his broad torso and hugging herself against him. He wrapped his arms around her shoulder, returning her hug gently. They stood in silence for a moment as she composed herself before she finally pushed away from him and looked up into his dark eyes with a bright smile on her face.
"You look so much like your mother, Scout," Zap commented, his voice thick with emotion he was still struggling to express. He was a military man, trained through the society he'd grown up in to keep his feelings to himself. Only recently, with his heart attack several months before and the ups and downs in his family life since then, had he begun to show the people he loved that he truly loved them.
"Thanks, Dad," she whispered up at him, her throat clenching with the happy tears she tried not to cry. She didn't want to ruin the make-up all the professionals had forced on her. Thankfully, they'd been ordered to listen to her wishes, and she still looked like herself. Her cheeks were slightly flushed from her excitement and happiness, and her blue eyes were brighter, rimmed by a soft outline that brought out the natural color of her eyes.
"She would have loved to be here," he pointed out, glancing away from her as an involuntary tear sprang to his eye and he was forced to swallow and clear his throat. Biting her bottom lip, Scout nodded vehemently, unable for form words in the emotional moment. She wished more than anything that she'd grown up with the wonderful woman her father had always described to her. "But I have you," she added with a smile as she reached out to take her father's hand, squeezing it gently.
He found the strength to look up at her again and he smiled, showing her a strong face as was his duty. "And you'll always have me, sweetheart. Now how about we go get you married to that boy?" he offered with an amused grin replacing the emotional moment from before. Scout smiled broadly, her nose wrinkling slightly as she struggled not to giggle at his words.
Looping her arm through his elbow, she followed along at his side as they exited the dressing room and entered the bright sunlight of the venue beyond. Floor-length white gauzy curtains flowed in the gentle breeze coming off of the harbor and the wedding march - played by a live string quartet - echoed through the high-ceilinged passageway as Scout and her father emerged from the room and came in to view of the crowd. Everyone rose at the sight of them, and she felt as if she was floating, gliding through a dream full of dancing white fabric and perfection.
She'd always thought she would be nervous. She thought she would be shy and embarrassed with so many people staring at her as the centerpiece of a wedding, but she found that she wasn't. This was right, this was perfect. This was everything she wanted. She knew beyond any shadow of a doubt that she wanted to be married to Nixon, wanted to be with him for the rest of her life. That confidence removed any nervousness she could have as she emerged from the dancing shadows of the fabric-filled breezeway and into the sunlight where the crowd was congregated.
Lifting her chin, she looked past them all, instantly recognizing him as he stood at the line of men on the stage at the end of the pathway. Her lips parted slightly before she smiled brilliantly at him, her fingers unconsciously tightening into the fabric of her father's tuxedo in her excitement. He was beautiful, as always, but this was special. She'd seen Nixon in a suit before, even in a tuxedo, but he was the image of everything wonderful and perfect in her life. He was her Adonis, and she was yet again in awe that the man waiting for her was as in love with her as she was with him.
The walk down the aisle seemed like an eternity, but soon enough they arrived in the partial shade of the coupala in front of the minister. Her blue eyes sparkled adoringly as she smiled softly at Nixon. Taking her attention for the briefest of moments, Zap leaned over and kissed her cheek, whispering so only she could hear, "I love you." Her throat clenched with love for her father, for his strength in letting her go, putting his faith in her and in Nixon that they would keep one another happy. He didn't give her the chance to respond, so her lips parted slightly as she sucked in a breath before her eyes flickered back up to Nixon. She was too full of emotion, too full of happiness that she couldn't express so she resorted to stepping forward so she could slip her arm through his, making the symbolic step from one male protector to another.
Turning to Jo, she handed the bouquet to her with a content smile before focusing on the minister as he began his speech. She listened carefully, taking every word to heart and filling her mind and soul with the promise she was making to the man at her side. When it came time for the vows, she released his elbow and turned to face him once more, her dress rustling softly around her hips and feet. Slipping her hands into his, she bit her lip slightly before allowing herself to smile blissfully up into his gray eyes.
"We've been through so much, and we're finally here. I will never love anyone as much as I love you, and... I am yours. Until the end of this life, and hopefully into whatever greater beyond exists past that, I will always love you. Always and forever, I promise," she spoke to him, forgetting anyone else existed in the area. The breeze gently shifted the veil around her face and against her neck, rustling her flowing dress as she squeezed his fingers, gently rubbing the curves of his palms with her fingertips. words // ?? // outfit // clicky // tagged // scout boy with a coin, T H E N M A K I N G A W I S H , A N D T O S S E D I N T H E S E A he was unnaturally subdued on the day that would change his life forever.
it didn't mean that he was regretting his decision. he wanted to marry scout. he had wanted to marry scout the moment he had proposed to her, weeks before then even. despite their hardships, despite their ups and downs, and their roller coaster ride, nixon knew one thing was for certain. he loved her with all of his heart and soul. she had changed him, changed his ways, but she had made him into a better person because of it. hell, she had made him human. that was not a feat that he would have thought possible in years past, but she had done it. and she had done it with little trouble. nixon had been blinded by her that first night that they had met in the bar the night of his birthday. she had challenged him, she still did. but their relationship was more of a loving one now than ever before. he knew that it was because of what they had both gone through when he had been kidnapped and nearly murdered in ghana.
his dependence, his withdrawal, his pain, and his suffering had not only been his to shoulder, to survive through. scout had been with him every step of the way and she had suffered just as much as he had, maybe even more. while he had not been conscious through a lot of his agony, she had been there every second of every minute. she had been relentless, endlessly loyal and it was those actions that proved her love for him. and it allowed him to discover that his feelings for her had never changed, despite the argument that had occurred before sloan had made her move. everything leading up to this moment had happened for a reason, he was sure of it. his recovery allowed him to grow close to her family, her father and her brother. it was a value system that he had never had, but he loved zap and leo like they were his own blood. he had never had a father figure in his life before but zap was exactly what he needed and more. he didn't know where he would be now without the man. sighing softly to himself, nixon tried to clearing his racing thoughts.
his grey eyes were accentuated by the grey in his vest, in his ornate tie. the colors were subdued but they were noticeable and the grey contrasted perfectly with the black of his tuxedo. he had dressed up before, but never like this, and never for this occasion. he pulled nervously at the collar of his shirt, his nerves showing for the first time since they had arrived at the venue. his gaze met his half-brother's in the mirror and for a moment, he forgot about the happiness that was supposed to be his today.
lysander had been suffering. nixon didn't know why, but he wanted to. he wanted to know why his brother was suddenly a shell of his former self. he wanted to know what had broken him. nixon had been there. maybe not for the same reasons, but he had been there. he wanted to help him, he longed to help him. the relationship that he had with his brother was better than it had ever been. it was better than he could have ever hoped for and he hoped that it would only improve. but ly had to let him in. worry creased nixon's brow as he studied his brother in the mirror, meeting the older man's gaze after a few moments. "lysander.." he spoke softly, his british accent holding a softness to it that it had never had before. scout had done this to him, but it was obvious he was holding onto it stubbornly. stepping around, he turned to face the man, his hand traveling up to clasp him behind his neck in a loving, supportive embrace. "i'm here for you. never forget that." he said softly, his tones low. shaking his head, the soon to be wed man stepped away from his brother after giving him a quick hug that ended with a pat on his back. turning wordlessly from him, he straightened his jacket, making himself appropriate to head outside.
leo ducked his head into the room occupied by the brothers and nixon offered him a nervous smile. when the younger man announced that it was all set up, nixon looked hesitantly to lysander and than nodded. stepping forward, losing his voice, the once selfish man let lysander out the door first, closing it behind them as he struggled to get his thoughts in order.
this was it. this was the day. he was going to be marry scout and his life was going to be extremely different. he couldn't wait. lydia hadn't been invited. she wasn't here and nixon didn't want her to be. she would only ruin things and he would not allow that to happen to scout on her day. he could sacrifice his disaster of a mother in order for scout to be happy. it was simple, really. anyone who mattered to nixon was here. anyone who mattered to scout was here. they wanted it simple, quiet, and that's exactly what it would be. there wasn't even one hundred guests here. just the important, necessary ones. charlie, leo, and lysander were his groomsmen. scout had chosen the women to be at her side without hesitation. it was a small wedding party, but it was perfect. he felt more and more at ease as he approached the altar, and he didn't move a muscle or make a sound as everyone got situated and set up. his hands were crossed in front of his chest and his gaze was fixated onto the ground as if he was caught in a stare that he couldn't free himself from.
even as the wedding march started up, nixon did not lift his gaze from the spot. he felt a tug at his elbow suddenly, most likely from his brother, and he came free from his stupor, his grey eyes hazy and unfocused.
and then he saw her.
his eyes softened, his body relaxed, his lips lifted into a gentle, loving smile. it was a smile that he saved only for her. it was a smile that he only wanted her to see, and he prayed she only had eyes for him now. as the few appreciative gasps fell over the crowd, nixon didn't pay them any mind. it was said that the only look that mattered was the one that the groom gave the bride, and nixon's look spoke volumes. he was transfixed on the woman he loved, on the woman he was finally marrying, and his attention only shifted when zap reached him with scout by his side. nixon's grey eyes widened suddenly as he took in the sight of the man who was now basically his father, his nerves apparent. he gave the man a tentative smile, a smile that also betrayed nixon in a way that he had never been betrayed before, and he nodded respectfully to the gentleman before zap took his place. nixon looked down at scout as she stepped next to him, her arm wrapping around him for a moment as she stepped towards him after being handed over by her father.
"you look beautiful." his voice was breathless, awestruck, filled with emotion as it cracked from the admittance. a blush hit his clean shaven cheeks, something he knew scout wouldn't approve of, but had been insisted on by the stylists. sighing in contentment, he let her settle across from him, his eyes drinking her in. the gown was perfect. it was timeless, it was elegant, it was breathtaking. it was scout. she had done wonderfully, and it was certainly worth waiting for. smiling ever so slightly at her now, his nerves were quite apparent as the ceremonies went underway. he listened, but he was terribly distracted as scout took center stage in his mind. when it was time for his vows, he barely managed to keep up, but his voice was strong and clear, his accent muddling some of the words together. but he was still able to get his point across to the woman who mattered the most in his life.
"i was never a believer of the saying 'everything happens for a reason'. that is, not until i met you. you not only made me believe, but you showed me what it was like to love, and to love endlessly. i never want to know a day without you, without your love, or without loving you. it wouldn't be a life, because you are my life now. i love you, so much, scout. i will love you for forever and a day." the last sentence was said in jest, but he was entirely serious as he gazed at her now, his eyes welling with emotion. he didn't cry, he didn't shed any tears, but it was obvious that he was feeling more than he ever had before in her presence. smiling now, he listened as she spoke her vows, falling even more in love with her with every word she spoke, and he knew that this was the right choice. when the man instructed them to pledge themselves, nixon gave himself willingly, slipping the wedding band over her ring finger, allowing her to do the same. leaning forward, stepping closer, his hands reached for her veil, pushing it back gently with a short, incredulous laugh.
he kissed her without restraint, although it was chaste and passionate. it lasted moments, but he never wanted to pull away. when he finally did, the applause and the cheers that reached his ears made him turn away from scout for the first time since the ceremony started. the happiness, the warmth, that spread through his entire being was indescribable, and he never wanted it to end. taking her hand in his, he stepped down from the altar after they were presented as a married couple, and he led her down the aisle, at his side, walking with the woman who was now his wife. the laughter that escaped him was contagious, palpable, refreshing. he was truly happy and it was all because of scout. reaching the doors with her, he turned back with her and waved goodbye to their guests. not saying anything, he pulled her along now, his longer legs carrying him at a quicker pace, nearly a run. laughing, he opened the doors to the outdoors, seeing the black limo parked out front for them, decorated with the proper just married signs and symbols. reaching it after the crowds surrounded them, he opened the door and bowed to scout.
"after you mrs. nixon grey." notes // ahhhhhhh! you can go wherever you want with it now because i'm in nixout heaven. no big deal. |

[/style] Lysander stood staring blankly at the wallpaper-covered wall, unaware that he'd drifted off again. He slipped into periods where he was trying not to think about what had happened to him a week and a half before, so he thought of nothing and he stood numbly staring into open space. Nixon's voice brought him quickly back to reality, his chocolate-colored eyes slowly drawing upward as his younger half-brother turned to face him. He looked into Nixon's face and briefly wondered what about them was alike. Nixon was strong, self-confident, and sure of himself. Nothing such as had happened to Lysander would have happened to Nixon. He didn't know, of course, the details of his brother's own torture at the hands of a woman equally as evil as the woman who had destroyed him. If he did, perhaps he would have more faith in himself, more faith that he wasn't the only person such torture had happened to.
Not wanting - out of propriety and care for his brother - to redirect Nixon's attention from his day to his brother, Lysander offered him a smile as they faced one another. He felt Nixon's hand around his neck, pulling him forward, and he stepped slightly forward as their heads rested against one another. Sighing inwardly, he looked down at his polished shoes as he heard Nixon's words. He said nothing as his brother stepped away and then pulled him in to a hug. He returned it, patting his back as they moved to part. He felt Nixon didn't need to hear his answer, he just needed to speak. Surely, he was nervous. Whatever problems he still may have meant nothing in light of this day that meant the world changing for his younger brother. Lysander liked Scout, and he liked what she'd done to his brother. Before her, he never would have referred to Nixon as his brother, but now, he believed they were the only blood family either of them had. Ly had never cared for Lydia since she was the reason Nixon had hated him and his own father had hardly spoken to him during his entire life. He knew Nixon felt similarly now, and they bonded over the woman's horrendous personality.
"You clean up alright," he teased lightly, offering Nixon a sideways smirk before glancing over his shoulder as Scout's twin brother opened the door. He reached over and patted Leo's back, having easily become acquainted with the younger man just as he had with Scout. Squeezing Leo's shoulders, he smiled, erasing all signs of his discomfort as he followed Leo from the room with Nixon close behind.
-----------------------
As she emerged from the partial shade of the breezeway, and she caught Nixon's attention, the look on his face made her heart leap in her chest, and she instantly forgot anyone else around her. Her shoulders drew up slightly as her smile broadened, and only her father's stolid presence at her side refrained her from breaking out in to a run.
When the eternal march down the aisle was over, and her father departed after a soft smile at his son-in-law, her hand slipped beneath Nixon's arm and she glanced up at him as she stopped at his side. She heard his words and saw his cheeks redden as his voice grew thick and he told her she was beautiful. She sucked in a long breath and bit the inside of her lip as she struggled not to grin like an idiot. Not given the time to respond as the minister launched in to the ceremony, she squeezed his arm and leaned against him subtly.
She turned to face him at the appropriate moment, her fingers slipping in to his, and she listened intently to him as he spoke only for her benefit. It didn't matter that there were guests watching, or that they were joined on the stage by the groomsmen and the bridesmaids. No one else mattered as she looked up into his gray eyes and heard him promise to love her for the rest of forever. She swallowed heavily as she heard him admit he loved her in front of the crowd of witnesses, and her eyes glowed with pure joy at his promise. His final statement made her smile, easing any tension she might have felt, and she unconsciously squeezed his hands before launching in to her own promise for him.
Her heart beat happily, excitedly, and her face hurt from smiling so much as she willingly gave him her hand, feeling the cool metal slip over her finger to be joined by the beautiful engagement ring she'd already been wearing for months. Taking his hand in her own, she followed suit, gently turning the dignified wedding band around his finger before running her fingers down his hand and glancing up at him with an expectant gaze. She stood still as he lifted the edges of the tulle veil which sparkled from the miniature diamonds adorning it, and she lifted her chin to look up at him as her vision cleared and she saw him in brilliant living color. She smiled girlishly up at him as he chuckled, and her fingers slipped up to rest gently against the sides of his smoothly-shaven face as they kissed. The sounds of the assembled crowd were nothing to her as she kissed him, sealing the oath that she was now his wife.
It seemed to last a lifetime, but only a short moment, and she pulled away from him, gazing lovingly up at him before wrapping her arm through his and hugging herself to his side as they were officially announced and Mr. and Mrs. Nixon Grey. Her nerves and veins felt as if bubbly champagne fizzed through them, so filled were they with her bliss. It was perfect, every detail, and was now the best day of her life. The exit song played, and her hand slid down the inside of his arm, naturally twining her fingers through his as her free hand gathered some of the fabric of her skirt as she followed after him.
The crowd clapped, filling the air with the noise, and she giggled, blushing slightly as she escaped down the walkway with him. Although she would love to greet each of them individually, to thank them for whatever part they'd played in her life and Nixon's, she wanted more than anything to be with him. They deserved this after everything they'd been through. Their happiness deserved to be simple and perfect. When he stopped to turn back to the crowd, she nestled in to the crook of his side, smiling and blowing a kiss at her father who winked at her and returned her wave. As she glanced toward her twin, she smiled at him and her smile broadened as she noticed Lysander wrap his arm around Jo's shoulders to kiss her gently on the top of her blond hair.
Soon enough, Nixon silently tugged her away, ushering her into the relative silence of the breezeway and building beyond. Her dress flowed and rustled around her as she tugged it up to make room for her feet, and she laughed happily with him as he opened the doors and led her outside. Catching sight of the limo, bedecked appropriately, she snorted and covered her mouth with her hand as she chuckled amusedly at herself. Dropping her hands from her face, she gathered her dress in both hands as her husband stepped in front of her and opened the door.
Hearing her title, her new name, on his tongue made her smile lovingly at him. "Thank you, Mr. Nixon Grey," she replied with a giggle, and she glided forward, feeling very much like a princess as she became engulfed by the white fabric of her dress as she climbed in to the seat. Petting down the layers of tulle, she shifted her weight and faced her knees toward him as he sat down beside her and closed the door. Instantly, once they were together alone in the back of the vehicle, she reached for him, taking his face in her hands and kissing him longer, deeper than she'd been allowed to before. She became breathless with the reality that they were finally married, no longer just individual entities, but part of a team.
When, finally, she pulled away from him, she ran her fingertips down his jaw and licked her lips. "I love you," she murmured, the dancing sunlight reflecting off of her necklace and dancing across the front of his tuxedo. "I'm not so sure about this though," she teased, brushing her hands over his smooth-shaved cheeks. The smell of his familiar cologne attracted her like a moth to a flame, and her eyes grew wide as she looked over at him, smiling that private smile she reserved only for him before kissing him again.
Reaching for his left hand, she rested her left hand over his, bending her fingers through his so their rings rested side-by-side. She leaned back against his chest, bending her head back to rest on his shoulder as she turned her face and kissed him beneath his jaw. "Are you going to tell me where we're going for our honeymoon? Or is it going to be a secret until we get there?" she asked, breathing against his neck and running her nose along his jawline up to beneath his ear where she kissed him, a feather's touch in the soft spot behind the curve of his jaw. words // ?? // outfit // clicky // tagged // scout boy with a coin, T H E N M A K I N G A W I S H , A N D T O S S E D I N T H E S E A his grey eyes were transfixed on her slender form as she gathered the skirt of her gown in her hands, trying to climb into the limousine with a bit of difficulty. the skirt was large, but it was beautiful and nixon appreciated her taste. smiling to himself, he finally left his post at the car door, knowing it would stay open, and helped her, his hands grasping the wispy fabric gently as he helped his wife fold it around herself comfortably in the car.
"is that alright?"
he asked her quietly, his grey eyes searching hers as she explained to him that it was fine. nodding, satiated, he stepped into the car, ducking down and twisting around so that he could grab the door and close it behind him. he took in the crowd gathered outside of the venue with a small smile on his face and he rolled the window down, offering them a wave before putting the window up and turning to scout. she didn't waste any time, and he watched as she slipped across the seat, closer to him, kissing him passionately, lovingly. he couldn't keep the smile from his lips as he returned the action, his lips parting hers as he kissed her lovingly, wantingly. he wanted scout for the rest of his life. he couldn't imagine himself without her now because she had been the very reason he had changed, and for the better. without her he wouldn't be the man he was now. he wouldn't have been able to get past his addiction, his withdrawal. he was afraid that he would be nothing without her, but his dependence on her didn't scare him. if anything it excited him, it enthralled him.
he had never needed someone before.
he needed scout like he needed to breathe and while the emotions were intense, he didn't detest them. he wanted to feel them forever. it was nice to need someone, it was a relief. it made him feel human again and he wasn't going to take it for granted. he would never throw her love away as he had the day she had told him to run, the day she had warned him of the danger that he was in. he didn't know what would have happened if he had handled that differently. but the betrayal had cut him deep, it had shattered his trust. her loyalty and her love for him had slowly brought him around as he recovered and he wasn't going to waste another moment without her.
glancing down at her as she leaned against him, her head on his shoulder, he wrapped his arm around her bare shoulders, keeping her close to him. he didn't want to be away from her for a moment. this new feeling of attachment, this new feeling of the want to protect her and to keep her safe was almost overwhelming, but it gave him a reason to be in her presence. he had already taken the proper amount of time off a work and he knew that it would be difficult going back because these upcoming days with her were going to be like his own little private heaven. shaking those thoughts from his mind, he leaned down and gently brushed his lips against her forehead, squeezing her against him and rubbing her arm. as she linked their left hands together, he heard their rings clink softly together and his attention was refocused. the silver band on his left ring finger was simple but elegant, not overly ornate and just the way he liked it. it just looked odd on his hand. out of place almost. for a man who wasn't used to wearing anything on his hands, it was a different feeling for him. he was excited to wear it, to show the world that he belonged to someone.
glancing down at scout for a moment, he sighed softly and listened as she spoke up. she hated when he was clean shaven and he knew she would make a comment about it. grinning sideways at her, he shrugged his shoulders innocently. "it's not my fault, love. the stylists you found for me were insistent and incessant." he explained, the laughter in his eyes as he peered down at her. shaking his head a bit, he settled back in the seat and glanced out the window. they were nearly there and he was looking forward to their reception. he was nervous and hesitant about the dance that they had planned. while he knew how to dance, and while he was good at it, he was going to be completely out of his element. he wasn't silly, he wasn't outgoing like this dance asked him to be. he didn't know how scout had managed to convince him, but she had seemed so genuinely excited about the idea that he couldn't turn her down. besides, she had cheated. after making him sit through hours and hours of wedding planning, she had tossed that at him and he was too tired to argue.
trying not to think about it now, he heard her next statement and glanced to her with a playful expression. "it's a surprise. you won't know until we get to the airport and are about to board the flight. i'll make sure you have the right things packed and you are welcome to try to guess." he admitted to her with a smile and then looked over as the car slowly pulled to a stop. looking down at her now, he removed his arm from around her and gave her an encouraging look.
"ready?"
taking her hand when he had her response, he opened the door and eased her out of the car after him, making sure she had her gown settled before he even dreamed of taking a step forward. wrapping his arm around her waist, he kept her at his side as they walked forward and to the hall. it wasn't outlandishly decorated, it wasn't overdone. he liked it and scout had done a wonderful job. he had been sure to tell her that the other day when she had showed it to him. now they were entering as husband and wife though and he couldn't be happier. it looked even better to him now than it did before. stepping forward, he was relieved when they met up with the wedding party again, watching as the groomsmen and the bridesmaids paired off. once everyone seemed situated, nixon waited at the end of the line with scout, allowing the others to be introduced first. when it was their time, nixon paused, catching scout before she walked forward. kissing her softly, chastely, he pulled away, wanting more, but knowing they needed to go. sealing their moment with another quick kiss, her took her hand in his and stepped forward.
the cheers and the applause that reached them surprised him, but he could only smile in response. he was relieved and glad that everyone seemed to be happy and enjoying themselves. however, even though the crowd wasn't very big, he was still as nervous as ever. as they went through the proper order of the evening, nixon was suddenly aware of the announcement. their first dance. swallowing past the lump in his throat, he headed to the dance floor with scout by his side, gathering her in his arms as the music started softly in the background. his grey eyes, wide now, turned down to look at her and he shook his head slightly. "i can't believe you're making me do this." he whispered, his lips brushing across her ear as he held her close to him. sighing, a small smile worked its way onto his lips despite the fact he was about to make a total fool out of himself. only scout could convince him to do something like he was about to do. he really shouldn't be surprised anymore. this was certain to be memorable. notes // ahhhhhhh! you can go wherever you want with it now because i'm in nixout heaven. no big deal. |

[/style] "no stylist of mine would do such a thing. fire them all at once," she announced jokingly, wrinkling her nose as she smiled at him. as she leaned back against him, she turned her head to look over at him, her left hand running up his smooth jawline. "you're still the best-looking man in the world," she remarked, kissing under his jaw and breathing in the scent of his cologne.
they sat in silence for a moment, and she closed her eyes so she could only feel what happened in the car. the limo rocked them ever so gently, and she could feel his strong chest against her bare shoulders. smiling to herself, her eyes flitted open and she asked him about their honeymoon. of course, he knew she enjoyed surprises so he intended to keep the details from her until the very last moment. sitting up, she looked over at him with a playfully disdainful glare. "you've already got lenny packing clothes for me, don't you?" she asked him, elbowing him. she shook her head and snorted amusedly, only sobering up slightly when he withdrew his arm from around her and asked her if she was ready.
"i'm ready," she affirmed, slipping her hand in to his and allowing him to stabilize her so she could climb out of the car with the yards of fabric that made up her dress. withdrawing her hand from his only long enough to straighten her wedding gown, she glanced up at him and smiled encouragingly before stepping toward him. his arm slipped naturally around her waist, and she bit the inside of her lip as she cuddled against his side, sliding her arm beneath his and around his back.
she appraised her work proudly as they stepped up to the outside of the hall. the twinkling lights and the ambience, it was all part of a perfect day, the beginning to a perfect life. no, every moment wouldn't be sunshine and rainbows, she knew that, but as long as she was nixon's wife, then her life would be perfect. he was all she wanted, and all the little details didn't matter. they could live in a hut in ghana or in an expensive mansion in los angeles, it wouldn't matter to her as long as they were together.
recognizing the wedding party, she smiled broadly at their friends, squeezing jo's hand before being engulfed in a hug by leo's girlfriend marley. coughing a laugh before extracting herself from the girl, she returned to nixon's side with a pleased smile from annice, another former colleague of hers who'd left town but came back for the wedding. the women and men lined up in front of them and headed inside, and scout stepped to follow them but was brought up short by nixon's arm around her waist. turning to face him, she looked expectantly up at him as he pulled her against him and kissed her. the kiss, although short and sweet, took her breath away and she melted against him. he pulled away, giving her a chance to catch her breath, and she naturally kissed him softly on his lips as she smiled just before he took her hand and led her in to the reception.
the cheering of their friends and family made her smile brilliantly and hugged herself to her husband's side as they entered together. they went through the motions, eating before being greeted by everyone who wanted to wish them luck throughout their lives together. after they cut the cake (and scout finished wiping the white icing off of her face where nixon had playfully shoved cake in her mouth) and drank their champagne, it was time for what would become the highlight of the event. at least as far as she was concerned.
she wasn't even sure herself how she'd talked him into doing this with her, but she knew they would make fools of themselves together, and it would be worth it. her nervous energy bubbled up within her, and as she followed him onto the dancefloor, gladly folding herself into his arms as they swayed in front of the ring of people, she giggled at his comment. "we're doing this together, and you'll be rewarded later, don't you worry," she teased him, kissing him quickly beneath his ear just as the music shrieked to a halt and she pushed away from him, raising her eyebrows and smirking at him.
scout loved dancing as much as she loved singing, and she didn't do either enough. so, as the songs cycled through one another, she soaked it up, laughing and thoroughly enjoying herself. it felt just like those lazy days the two of them spent at home, chasing one another around the couch and tripping over rebel, leaving the mess for someone else to worry about. the songs cycled through, skipping over classics throughout the decades, even including the robot song where nixon moved her arms for her and made her smack herself in the face to which she almost doubled over in laughter.
as it came to an end, the music changed to 'i've had the time of my life', and scout turned to face nixon, a smile crossing her face as she gathered her dress in her hands and swayed back and forth to the music. mouthing the words to the song to herself, she raised her eyebrows, asking him if he was ready. when she knew he was, she waited for the precise moment when the song built before she took the steps that carried her quickly to him and she easily leapt in to his arms, squealing girlishly as he lifted her in the air and spun with her. her cheeks flushed as she laughed while she slid down his chest until her feet met the floor once more and she smiled lovingly into his gray eyes before leaning up to kiss him as the music reverted back to the original song. the crowd laughed gleefully and clapped as the song slowly came to an end, and scout smiled as she finally pulled away from him to look up at him.
"was it worth it?" she asked him with a grin, her arms sliding around the back of his neck.
the song came to an end and she wrapped her arm through his elbow as they walked back to the edge of the dance floor. her father waited by their table, a soft smile on his face. he clapped nixon on his back and hugged him briefly before turning to his daughter. "may i have a dance?" he asked with a grin that mirrored scout's own.
"i guess that'll be alright," she teased, taking his arm and glancing over her shoulder at nixon before allowing her father to lead her on to the floor. the song was of a medium tempo and she laughed happily as zap spun her and pulled her toward him.
"you look happy, sweetheart. i'm couldn't be happier that you're happy, scout," he told her, smiling proudly down at her as he guided her in a box step. she smiled up at him and nodded her head gently. "i really am, dad," she agreed, glancing toward nixon with a small smile. "thank you," she concluded, causing him to frown questioningly.
"what's that for?"
shrugging her shoulders slightly, she grinned a half-grin and glanced down at his tie before looking back up at him. "without you, i wouldn't be here, nixon wouldn't be here. i love you, that's all," she whispered emotionally, smiling as happy tears brimmed in her eyes.
"you don't have to thank me, but i love you too, sweetie," he murmured in response, leaning over to kiss her where her hair met her forehead. the song wound to an end and he pulled her into a hug as the song faded away. "don't forget to dance with your brother before you leave." he winked at her and gave her back to nixon after kissing her on her temple one last time. leo was next to steal her, and she spent four minutes rolling her eyes at her irascible brother and teasing him that he danced like a robot with no joints in his legs. however, she wouldn't trade her brother for anyone else to fill the position, and she hugged him tightly before he disappeared to return to marley.
when she was finally back at nixon's side, she slipped her arms around his waist and stuck out her bottom lip, pouting playfully. "can we please leave now? i'll throw the bouquet, and we can go. i'm ready to just be us," she whispered, kissing him lightly on the tip of his nose. words // ?? // outfit // clicky // tagged // scout boy with a coin, T H E N M A K I N G A W I S H , A N D T O S S E D I N T H E S E A the old nixon would have never agreed to do something like this. the old nixon had been too proper, too concerned with his self image to really let himself relax and just have fun. but this event was made up of only family and friends. they were the only people he allowed to see the real nixon, the one beneath the proper CEO of a fortune five hundred company. nixon had made a name for himself after his recovery period. he had taken the company back from his half-brother, but only after he was fit enough to handle the responsibility again. and it couldn't have come at a more proper time, especially with lysander's recent darkening mood. trying not to think on his brother for too long even the subject worried him more than he ever thought it would, he looked at scout as she swayed easily, merrily in his arms. her smile was innocent as she spoke to him and he gave her a look that said he was clearly not amused. however, she would be able to see right through him. while he was completely nervous about what they were about to do, he was glad that she was the one who was able to make him silly.
silly was not a word that nixon would have ever used to describe himself.
but recently, he had become more and more playful, especially with the time that he was spending with his wife. grinning down at her as he shook his head, he spoke up once more, right before the music ended abruptly to start the dance sequence they had rehearsed.
"the reward will have to come much later than you anticipate, my love." he teased her openly, knowing the comment would only serve to perplex her. it was about their honeymoon destination and he knew the suspense would be killing her. giving her his own innocent smile with a playful raise of his eyebrows, he sighed as the music suddenly stopped. glaring at her as she pushed herself away from him, he took a step back and started into a series of dance moves that he never thought he would partake in. the variety was endless, and nixon found himself doing the cotton eyed joe before too long, his face flushing from the activity of the moves that they had planned. he didn't know how scout did it in that dress to be perfectly honesty and he was worried about catching her in it. they had practiced multiple times for the lift scene at the end, but he had never caught her in something so big. he was worried she was going to engulf him with the fabric, but that worry didn't make him falter. he danced his way over to her, knowing that the robot part of the dance was coming up soon.
he knew what he wanted to do, and while it was unrehearsed, when he made her smack herself in her face, the crowd erupted into louder laughter, their cheers intensifying when they saw the playfulness that had overtaken the bride and groom. nixon laughed merrily, his eyes sparking with his joy in a way that had never really been properly displayed before. nixon was happy, and it was because he was surrounded by scout and her family. lysander was the only one he wanted here for himself and he prayed that his brother was at least enjoying himself, despite whatever tragedy had occurred. shaking those thoughts from his mind, he heard the music switch to the theme from dirty dancing. heaving a nervous sigh, he stopped suddenly after performing the macarena with scout and faced her, watching her nod. giving her an easy shrug of his shoulders, he held his arms out in preparation for the catch. when she ran towards him, the laughter was contagious, and he caught her as she leaped at the precise moment.
catching her by her thin waist, he hoisted her up with little effort, glad for their never ending wrestling matches at home. he was used to lifting her up and about, and while this was higher than he was used to, he was still able to perform rather easily. holding her there as their audience erupted into wild cheers and whistle, nixon could only laugh and smile as he dropped her gently, letting her slip down against his chest to give her some balance. when she kissed him, he couldn't stop smiling, but he kissed her in return, lovingly.
hearing her words, he gave her another glare and shook his head defiantly. "absolutely not. i made a fool out of myself." he joked easily, obviously not minding what they had just done but not wanting to admit it, as was his stubborn way. he knew she would know he was only teasing, and he leaned in, kissing her cheek softly and then pulling back as they swayed back and forth to their actual wedding song once more. his eyes never left hers as the song ended slowly, and his fingers wrapped naturally into hers as he led her from the dance floor and to her father. nixon released scout, and he was suddenly surprised as zap patted him on the back and pulled him into a hug. the hug nixon gave zap was real and heartfelt, and he wanted this man to know how thankful he truly was for all of his support and his love. while zap never said it, he certainly showed it in his gentle nature. nixon saw it even if it was never truly obvious. "thank you." he said quietly to the man before he stepped forward to take his daughter back out to the dance floor.
the absence of the mother and son dance was noticeable, but the crowd had the decency to keep their murmurings to themselves. nixon didn't want lydia here because she would have ruined everything. her absence was her gift to him, and nixon stood on the edge of the dance floor, his grey gaze watching his wife and his father in law quietly, musing over the happenings of today. feeling a touch to his shoulder, he looked absently behind him and offered one of the many guests a smile and a thanks, his gratitude obvious. looking back to the dance floor, his eyes were now unfocused, not really seeing the exchange between scout and her father, but knowing how beautiful it truly was. when leo came up beside him, he was surprised by the nudge to his ribs the younger man gave him. while they had had their rough patches in the past because of leo's drug problems, the younger boy now respected and even admired nixon. "earth to the groom! are you regretting your decision already? i mean, seriously...living with a scout. oof, good luck to you man." he teased nixon openly, watching the billionaire's normally stoic expression curved into a smile as the proper man reached over and grabbed leo in a headlock.
"i know you're going to miss her, leo. you can just say it, you little trouble maker." he said fondly to the boy, keeping him in a headlock until zap and scout made their way over. they both grinned innocently at the two, and nixon released leo so that he could go and dance with his sister. leo had absolutely no shame, and he danced ridiculously with his twin, spinning her this way and that way, dipping her and moving his body around in only what could be considered an awkward fashion. nixon turned his gaze to zap, completely amused be the spectacle. "he's certainly an entertaining dancer." he said in amusement, clapping zap on the shoulder as scout and leo finished their dance to more cheers and applause. nixon unfolded his arms as his wife came over to him, taking in the playful way she pouted at him. he already knew what she wanted, but there was no need to confess that to her.
as she wrapped her arms around his narrow waist, he slowly curved his arms around her, swaying slightly with her on purpose. "well, i've been me this entire time, so i'm not entirely sure who you've been." he teased her with a wink, and then nodded his head.
"get going, mrs. grey. lenny has actually already packed your bags, and they're in the trunk of the limo. i've got a change of clothes for you so you can change in the limo on the way to the airport." notes // ahhhhhhh! you can go wherever you want with it now because i'm in nixout heaven. no big deal. |

[/style] scout raised her eyebrows as she surveyed her brother and her husband and their unconvincingly innocent smiles. she knew both of them well enough to know they were up to no good, but she didn't care. she enjoyed how leo had bonded with nixon over the year she'd dated him. after such a rough patch with their father, she thought having someone closer to his age to attach to helped him. he'd never listened to her, or at least he acted like he didn't, but he seemed to listen to nixon. she couldn't be more grateful for that relationship.
zap chuckled at nixon's comment about his son, nodding his head in agreement. "leo is certainly a character, isn't he?" he noted, raising his eyebrows slightly and smiling at his son-in-law. "i have absolutely no idea where the two of them get it from. that must've been from their mother's side." he offered nixon a wink and a chuckle as scout and leo finished up their dance.
her brother always made her laugh, and he didn't relent with his antics while they danced together. she was dizzy and a bit giddier by the time it was all over, so she leaned against him as she hugged him around his waist and walked with him back to the table. releasing her brother, she turned to nixon as her father politely turned to greet some guests and left them alone. he held her against him as she pouted up at him and asked him if they could leave. narrowing her eyes at him as he teased her, she stuck her tongue out at him. "don't be an ass, you know what i meant," she retorted, flicking the tip of his nose before she kissed him and stepped back.
her eyes widened slightly as he informed her her bags had been packed. "you honestly expect me to be able to climb out of this thing in the back of a limosine?" she asked him, motioning to her billowing dress with a wry smile on her face. stepping back toward him, she lifted up on her tip toes and smiled flirtatiously up at him. "you just want to get me out of my dress. i know how you work," she teased, squeezing his arm as she kissed him on his lips.
releasing him with a small, content sigh, she turned and sashayed away to where she was summoned to toss the bouquet. wondering briefly to herself how she was going to successfully do this without taking someone's head off, she shrugged her shoulders and turned her back to the ravenous females gathered for the tradition. carefully, she tossed the group of flowers over her head and turned to watch as the girls clambered for it. jo came out on top, waving the bouquet around gleefully as she straightened her dress. glancing at lysander, scout dipped her head, shrugging her shoulders upward innocently, and smiled as he shrugged his shoulders and offered her a smile.
glancing over at nixon as he approached her, she grinned broadly at him. "this could be a sign, you know," she commented offhandedly, reaching over and twining her fingers through his. "we might have a new sister-in-law, you never know. i did tell jo that lysander would probably have a heart attack when he saw her in her bridesmaid dress. he looks like he held up okay though," she joked. she'd recognized something seemed to have changed in the man who was now her brother-in-law, but she hadn't brought it up. they all went through more than they deserved, and she didn't sense that lysander was the type to talk about such things. he seemed more willing to bring it up on his own time instead of being addressed about it.
"lead the way, mr. grey," scout requested, squaring her shoulders and pursing her lips. the guests assembled in two lines as it was announced the bride and groom would be departing, and she hugged herself to nixon's side, wrapping her free hand around his arm while her fingers on her left hand remained intwined with his.
scout had a thing about bubbles. it was a weird, girly thing, but she absolutely loved this part of a wedding reception. the old rice tradition was entertaining, but she turned into the little yellow fish from finding nemo whenever everyone started blowing bubbles. it was an innocent, happy thing that filled her with contentment as she watched the rainbow-filled orbs dancing through the air over them. smiling brilliantly, she waved at her father and brother, then to lysander and jo and the others she recognized as they made the final walk from the reception hall toward the limo.
sucking in a deep breath of air, she warily eyed the vehicle and thought again about having to change her clothes in that thing. narrowing her eyes, she set her mind to succeed, and she would. she was intensely determined - and stubborn - when she wanted to be, and she would win this battle if it took her out in the process.
waiting patiently as nixon held the door for her as he always did, she climbed into the car with more success than the first time and decided how she was going to do this as he settled beside her. eyeing the bag of clothes that had mysteriously appeared in the back of the vehicle, she stared it down as if she was having an epic showdown on a dusty road in the old west. finally, she glanced over at nixon as the limo smoothly took off, headed for the airport, raising an eyebrow skeptically at him. "if you don't help me with this, then you are so in trouble," she pointed out, fixing him with a scornful look.
shifting in her seat so her back was facing him, she pointed at the back of her dress. "they're not actually buttons, it's a zipper," she noted. "please?" she inately knew he wasn't going to make this easy on her, but she didn't think she wanted him to. she knew approximately how long the car ride to the airport was from where they were, so she had plenty of time to change. she also enjoyed the playful side of him, so she wouldn't stop him from being irascible like always.
when he finally gave in and unzipped her dress, she gripped it firmly with her fingers as she turned slightly in the seat. "excuse me for a minute," she stated, grinning before she slid down off of the seat and disappeared into the yards of fabric gathered on the floorboard. it was a sea of white tulle, and it was hotter underneath it all than she'd imagined, but it remained in its upright position as she crawled beneath it to reach the bag of her clothes.
emerging with a huff, she held the puffy tulle around herself and glared at her husband as she unzipped her bag. "i take that back. you're in trouble for this anyway," she commented, sniffing as she withdrew the outfit she realized was nixon's favorite. lenny was a clever woman, scout had to give her that much. smiling at her minor victory, something she and the maid had unconsciously suceeded in together, she looked back over at him as she pulled out the dress and slid out from beneath the layers of her wedding gown.
the only thing she wore now was the white corset that outlined her slender frame and fell from her breasts to her hips, underneath which was a matching pair of lacy white underwear. hooked to the bottom of the corset were the elastic strips which held up the thigh-high pantyhose she wore, followed by a baby blue and white garter which rested just above her left knee. cocking her head to the side, she bit her bottom lip gently as she smiled at him, crawling back through the tulle to rejoin him on the seat. crossing her legs at the knee, she nonchalantly watched him as she undid the first hook which held up her pantyhose. unhooking each one carefully, keeping her eyes trained on him the entire time, she allowed the final one to snap off, falling away from her waist with a light click as it fell to the floorboard.
stretching out her right leg which rested over her left knee, she gently rolled the sheer fabric down her thigh, over her knee, and to her ankle before glancing innocently back at her husband. a soft, knowing smile teased at the corners of her mouth, but she batted her eyelashes sweetly at him as she shifted her weight and rested her left foot across his lap. running her thumb beneath the soft blue lace resting around her thigh, she ran her tongue along her teeth as she watched him through her eyelashes. "i might need just a little help with this one," she announced in a soft, thick voice. breathing in deeply and raising her chin a fraction of as inch, she tilted her head slightly as she watched him, perfectly at ease as her heart beat picked up speed and she waited for him to react.
