While as a child he was bratty and annoying, all of what the little brother should be, as an adult Alonzo is a quiet well-mannered. At some point in his life, Alonzo made a switch from a loud mouthed and arrogant individual to a silent man, but still smug and prideful. Nothing traumatic or horrifying triggered the switch; rather it was a decision to become more of an adult. • He was raised in a close and loving family, sometimes too close and he often found himself wishing for privacy. If it wasn’t the girls with their boy talking and weird girl secret things like periods (read: he didn’t understand what the heck a tampon as when he found one) it was his older brothers being vulgar over women and sex or rubbing all his hair away with “noogies.” He values his family highly, but he’s just as content to stay in his own apartment with his roommate and girlfriend – to almost be nonexistent. • Alonzo is very athletic having played field hockey in high school along with basketball and baseball – he was constantly out or involved in sports. Despite numerous sport scholarships his senior year of high school, Alonzo up the best of the best he had on the offer, what was feasible and he could afford before he agreed to his college. Originally going for sports medicine, Alonzo had a change of heart and enrolled in the nursing degree. While at first he wasn’t prepared for the amount of work and how much time it would consume, he devoted many sleepless nights to accomplish his goals. • His first roommate in college, Zac, became his best friend – they went out to ragers together and Alonzo was often the one pressuring his friend into doing keg stands. While he regrets being a bully when it came to party, he doesn’t regret everything they did together. Alonzo was often the mother hen when it came to the two, often being the one to prompt zac to put on sweats and walk to the dining commons for breakfast and working out early in the morning. From their first semester after, they were each other’s roommates and to this day they still are. • Alonzo started dating his girlfriend Grace at the end of his freshmen year of college. She was a girl that he could bring home to his family and have their approval and at college she was his wild woman. Alongside his best friend, Grace was a constant in his life and she moved in with the boys on their first off campus apartment. She’s waiting for the question that every woman wants to hear after dating a guy for four years: “will you marry me?” and she’s spotted several engagement ring look-ups in his browsing history. She wants Alonzo to have their own place together, but the fierce loyalty Alonzo feels to Zac prevents him from doing otherwise. The pair hardly see each other, Alonzo working from five in the morning to five at night and Grace works the overnight shifts as a neonatal nurse – their relationship is becoming more like a pair of broken shoes causing Alonzo to feel trapped and older than he is. • As a nurse, he respects client’s need for privacy and confidentiality. Alonzo works in pediatrics and family medicine, switching between the two. He’s very good with children, but seeing so many sick children and children in their worst hour has made him realize he doesn’t long for children of his own, much to Grace’s despair. |
